Summer 2026 is the busiest transatlantic season Scotland has seen in years. A US airline is back at Glasgow for the first time since 2019, and Edinburgh is fielding its widest ever choice of nonstop flights to the United States and Canada. Here is who flies where, and when.
Glasgow back on the map
United Airlines returned to Glasgow (GLA) on 8 May 2026 with a daily seasonal nonstop to New York/Newark (EWR), flown by a Boeing 737 MAX 8 and running through 24 October. It is the first scheduled US carrier service from Glasgow since 2019. Kam Jandu, chief executive of AGS Airports, said the route "has always been in strong demand, previously carrying significant passenger numbers as well as key Scottish exports such as whisky and seafood."
On the Canadian side, WestJet brought back Glasgow to Toronto (YYZ) in mid May 2026, roughly four times a week on the 737 MAX, marking its first Glasgow flying since 2022. Both services are seasonal for the summer.
Edinburgh's American options
Edinburgh (EDI) now has four airlines flying to the north-eastern United States. American Airlines added New York (JFK) from 8 March 2026, using the new Airbus A321XLR on what was the type's first scheduled transatlantic route. That runs alongside American's long-running Philadelphia (PHL) service, flown by a Boeing 787-8, with both scheduled through 24 October.
Delta serves New York (JFK), a link it has moved to year-round operation. JetBlue flies to both New York (JFK) and Boston (BOS) across the summer season. United, meanwhile, operates Newark alongside a seasonal Chicago O'Hare (ORD) route that runs roughly July to October. Between them, the four carriers give Edinburgh nonstops to New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Newark and Chicago.
Canada from Edinburgh
Edinburgh's Canadian links are all seasonal summer services. Air Canada flies to Toronto and Montreal, while WestJet offers nonstops to Toronto, Calgary and Halifax, the Halifax route a relatively recent addition to the Scottish capital. If none of the nonstops suit your dates, Icelandair connects both Scottish airports to a range of US and Canadian cities with a single change in Reykjavik.
As ever with seasonal flying, timetables tighten from late October, so check the carrier before booking winter travel.
