Edinburgh Airport enters 2026 on the back of its busiest year yet, and airlines are responding with a wave of new transatlantic, European and ski services. Here is a conservative, sourced round-up of what is confirmed for the year ahead.
A record year sets the tone
Edinburgh handled 16,980,588 passengers in 2025, described by the airport as almost 17 million and the first time any Scottish airport has recorded such numbers in a single year. Chief executive Gordon Dewar linked the growth to continued appetite for travel to and from Scotland, helped by new European and transatlantic routes. That momentum carries directly into the 2026 schedule.
New transatlantic links
The headline addition is American Airlines, which begins a new seasonal New York service from Edinburgh. Flights connect Edinburgh (EDI) with New York JFK from 8 March to 24 October 2026, operated by the Airbus A321XLR in a three cabin layout of 20 Flagship Suite seats, 12 Premium Economy seats and 123 Main Cabin seats. Alongside the new route, American is extending its Edinburgh to Philadelphia service so that it runs year-round, deepening the airport's ties to the United States.
More European choice
Europe is where most of the new flying sits. easyJet launches Edinburgh to Ljubljana from 4 April 2026, operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays and giving Scotland its only direct connection to Slovenia. British Airways, through its BA CityFlyer arm, adds San Sebastian on the northern Spanish coast, flying twice a week from Edinburgh in summer 2026.
Luxembourg's Luxair is entering the Scottish market for the first time, with a seasonal Edinburgh to Luxembourg service from 3 July 2026 operating on Mondays and Fridays. For winter travellers, Jet2 has expanded its ski programme by adding Verona, giving snow sports fans a gateway to the Italian Alps. The route begins on 7 February 2026 and operates every Saturday, taking Jet2's tally of ski destinations from Edinburgh to six.
Taken together, the additions spread across short haul city breaks, ski season demand and long haul premium travel, rather than resting on any single market. That mix is a reasonable sign of confidence in Edinburgh as Scotland's busiest gateway heading through 2026.
