Glasgow Airport (GLA) has one big quirk: there is no railway station at the terminal. Unlike Edinburgh's tram, every public route from Glasgow Airport is by bus, taxi or a connection to a nearby rail station.

Getting into the city

Glasgow Airport Express (bus 500). The official 24-hour airport bus reaches the city centre in about 15 minutes and Buchanan Bus Station in about 25 minutes, running up to every 10 minutes, with luggage storage, WiFi and USB charging. A single is around GBP 11, an open return around GBP 16.50. It stops near Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations, so it doubles as your link to the rail network.

Taxi. About 20 minutes to the centre via the M8 in normal traffic, from the rank outside Arrivals, roughly GBP 20 to 35 on the meter plus an airport pickup surcharge. At rush hour the bus-lane-assisted 500 can be just as quick.

Rail via Paisley Gilmour Street. The nearest mainline station is about 2 miles away. A short local bus or taxi gets you there, and then you have frequent trains to Glasgow Central plus services toward Ayr and the Clyde Coast.

Going beyond Glasgow

George Square in central GlasgowGeorge Square in central Glasgow · Illustration generated with AI Buchanan Bus Station, where the 500 ends, is a single handy interchange for trips further afield: trains from nearby Queen Street reach Loch Lomond (Balloch), Gleneagles and Edinburgh, and long-distance coaches leave from Buchanan itself.
